When you first look at the front cover of this book you can see what a monstrous grim world the people of Abu Saga live in. You will soon see how common murders and executions are in this city. Darren Shan is an amazing author, the storyline makes it impossible to put the book down, Darren is amazing at describing the people and settings that it feels like you are there. The story follows a young boy called Jebel Rum, his father is the best executioner in all of Abu Saga and his father will retire soon so one of this 3 sons will fight battle against other men in the city to become the next executioner, but then Jebel is put to shame ‘cause his two brothers are a lot bigger and stronger than him, you could say Jebel is a runt. So he goes on a quest to a glorious place to seek immortality. He comes across many troubles and interesting characters along the way. This is set in a different world, a different time in than ours full with different beliefs. You learnt about different religions in this story. I think this is an amazing book, full of love, death, hope and adventure. It’s an easy read and if you like adventure, deaths, love and mystery then I highly recommend this book.

Title: The Thin ExecutionerAuthor: Darren Shan Reviewed by Miss Houlihan The front cover itself gives you an idea of how grim the make-believe world of Wadi Rum is, as you enter into a story of common-place executions and murder.Darren Shan is said to be the “number one master of horror” – and there are enough grizzly deaths to keep you wondering if anyone at all will survive by the end of the novel. Even our hero seems unlikely to survive the ordeals. The story follows a scrawny boy on a quest, a journey across some weird lands fighting against some even weirder people. He also has a very weird name, Jebel Rum. From a family of executioners, Jebel needs to prove he not just a hopeless, skinny boy.It seems more of a fantasy than a horror to me.Set in a different world full of different beliefs, Shan is questioning why there are so many different religions. It proved to be a thought-provoking read.Plot-driven and full of grim events, this is an easy read – a bit of fun.
